Laura, a busy single executive, had been renting outside of Seattle for a few years before investigating what it would take for her to own her own home. She had spent many years establishing her independence, traveling and working in and around Seattle but soon found she wanted to invest her money into something that would not only nurture her and her life but also be a step towards financial security.

Although she wasn’t sure how she was going to afford to purchase something that fit her budget and her lifestyle, she was certain about what she ultimately wanted to buy:  a condominium with an urban vibe of which she could feel a sense of kinship with the community around her. Being single she really wanted the city to be an extension of her place of living that was close to coffee shops, eateries and entertainment.

Marie, 39, Homeowner

Marie had just been through a tough time in her life. She was recently divorced and after working through the process she realized what she and her son really needed was a change of scenery. The divorce had been a long and emotional process and she no longer felt in need of the large home she was trying to maintain on her own. She wanted something she could make her own in a serious attempt to move on with her life. Although she was excited to start anew, she wanted to make sure that a move was financially feasible and that a move wouldn’t disrupt her son’s life any more than necessary.

The market had changed and shifted since Marie bought her home with her ex-husband ten years ago. She didn’t remember the process and wasn’t sure what she needed to do to afford a new home in today’s market. She did know what she wanted in a home however:  a craftsman style home with three bedrooms, updated kitchen and baths, located on a quiet street with a low-maintenance yard in the same school district that they currently lived in.
