Yes, you can own a home

When it comes to even thinking about owning a home, we often are sitting on the sidelines of our lives and waiting. We wait for that perfect partnership or marriage, we wait for that dream job or cash windfall or we simply wait for the courage to take that first step towards taking control of our own financial future.

At Smart Girl Realty™ we are focused on helping you have a plan of action. Whether you are trying to get into your first home or transitioning into your second or third home, a little planning will go a long way.

You are not alone.  Take a moment to consider joining the ranks of millions of American women who own their own homes:

  • Single women are becoming homeowners at a rate never seen before. Approximately 18 million single American women own their own homes.

  • By 2010, the number of households headed by unmarried women is expected to be 31 million.

  • In 2006 single women snatched up one of every five homes sold in the United States.

  • Fannie Mae estimates by 2010 as many as 31 million single women will be homeowners accounting for 28 percent of U.S. households.

  • Since 1981 the amount of single women owning homes has doubled.

  • Unmarried women have more money than every before and represent 46% of the workforce.

  • Women are owning homes at a faster rate than men, women
outnumbered men almost 2-to-1 *according to the National Association of Realtors (NAR)

  • Next to married couples, single women comprise the second largest percentage of first-time homeowners with 22 percent of the purchases –compared to 12 percent for men. Unmarried couples account for 9 percent. *according to NAR

  • According to the same study women aren’t necessarily more able to afford a house than a man. Male buyers had a median income of $44,800 – compared to female buyers’ $35,000, yet women are outnumbering men as homeowners.

  • Seattle ranks fourth in the nation for the number of singles living in owner-occupied housing. This is among cities with populations of 500,000 or more, according to the 2000 Federal Consensus.
